Generalities: Native to South America, it includes twenty-five species of column cactus.

Propagation: the sowing takes place in March April in a compound for cacti that is kept in the wet and in the shade until germination. Basal shoots cut from the mother plant can be used. They are left to dry only if they have no roots, then they are replanted keeping the soil dry for two to three weeks.

Soil: a mixture of potting soil with coarse sand or cataceous compost.

Pests and diseases: they fear the floury cochineals.

Stem: columnar in shape, it can reach a height of more than two metres, is green to light grey in colour, and is covered with a bluish waxy bloom. The apex of the branches is round.
