Gift plants – Indoor plants – Gift plants – Apartment

PescatoreaOrchids are among the most given flowers, especially because they are very showy, and their flowers generally like a little bit to everyone, but unfortunately many species of orchids need some care to be always beautiful, bloom and thrive in a lush way.

If we decide to give a beautiful orchid plant, first of all let’s look for one that has only a few flowers already blossomed, and many buds: in this way, those who receive the gift will enjoy flowering for a few weeks, then will have at home a nice head of decorative leaves, but are much less pleasing to the eye than the large flowers of the orchids.

This is a trick to follow for any flowering plant you intend to give as a present: often we get greedy by the plant already full of flowers, without thinking that the flowers already completely blossomed will tend to fade quickly.

When we place the orchid in the hands of the person we are going to give it to, we should remember that it should not be placed in a sunny place, but possibly where it is exposed to a lot of light, but filtered, not directed. Let’s consider that in the greenhouses where they are cultivated, often the glasses are painted white, so that the plants receive a lot of light, but never directly the sun’s rays.

Another necessary measure to have beautiful and healthy orchids is to keep them in a place with humid air, so away from heat sources, raised from the ground if we have underfloor heating, and possibly placed in a pot holder full of expanded clay always wet, which will release in the air a good amount of water. To increase the ambient humidity it is useful to vaporize the plants often, but remember not to vaporize the flowers of the orchids, which would tend to stain irreparably.

There are also orchids that can stay outside, but generally we try to give them only to those who know, because they should be placed in a suitable place and checked frequently, to prevent them from remaining outdoors during the coldest periods without shelter, for a gift we prefer the orchids for apartment.

  • piante di natale At the end of the year, opportunities for gifts multiply. There is Christmas Day, but it can happen to be invited to dinner or to spend an afternoon with friends and you can not …

Leaf plants

Carnivora There are many leaf plants that can be adapted as floral gifts; photos, caladium, dracene, ficus, are all plants very easy to cultivate, that adapt without problems to the home climate and that do not need much care. We always keep in mind, however, the place where they will be able to take advantage, we avoid giving a palm tree to those who live in a small space, and maybe, on the contrary, we prefer a big ficus for those who have a large corner to furnish.

Asking the nurseryman, he can also advise us about plants that tend to grow more quickly, and those that instead remain small for a long time.

Leaf plants are also recommended for those who do not have plants in the house, because usually only need a few watering and a little fertilizer, and many vegetate without problems even in non-ideal conditions, presenting fewer problems than flowering plants.

These plants also have the considerable advantage of being able to be given also to those who suffer from some allergy, without fear of creating discomfort.

Flowering plants

Ficus lyrata Surely, as in the case of orchids, the homage of a flowering plant is always welcome, since no one remains indifferent to the charm of a beautiful flower colored, and perhaps even fragrant, for this reason among the most given plants are orchids, Christmas stars, azaleas. As we said before, however, flowering plants do not always remain flowering, so let’s try to choose plants with a long flowering period, and full of buds that have yet to bloom.

Some have a fairly short flowering period, such as azaleas or cineraria, while others can remain in bloom for most of the year, such as spatifillo and anturium.

Let’s remember that in order to have a long and repeated flowering, it is good to cultivate the plants in the best way, fertilizing them periodically and repotting them when necessary. Surely donating a flowering plant to a person who does not like plants so much is like giving them a little spitefulness; in fact, if not taken care of, the flowering plant will tend to stop flowering and to grow in a stunted way.

If the person to whom we give a gift has space in the open we can also orient ourselves on a garden plant, especially in spring we can find in the nursery many plants to be grown outdoors full of flowers, and easy to grow, in this case then we will avoid the inconvenience of having to find space in the house to the gift just received.

Fat and succulent

Often succulent and succulent plants are given away because it is believed that they are plants that do not need any care; this concept certainly comes close to reality, in the sense that many succulent plants are used, in the places of origin, to vegetate in extreme conditions, and therefore survive even at home if deprived of light and watering for a long time.

This does not mean that the plants vegetate at their best; in fact, most of the succulents, in order to develop at their best and to bloom, need fertilizations and water during the summer, and cold during the winter.

Many are therefore plants to be cultivated in cold or slightly heated greenhouse, and do not like the climate of the apartment; in the house, with the passing of the months in constant heat and without watering, they tend to mumify, or rather they completely stop the growth, remaining as embalmed.

At first glance, they may look like healthy plants, but they don’t really develop, they don’t flower and they tend to turn yellow slowly.

For this reason it is generally advisable to avoid choosing a succulent at random, but prefer those that are easier to grow, such as Christmas cacti, or other plants that are well suited to the climate of the apartment.

Let’s also remember that some people find it unfortunate to receive a gift of a thorny plant, so if we are not sure to make a welcome gift let’s avoid the cacti.

Giving plants: A gift for a passionate

piante da regalare If we decide to give a plant to a person who understands plants we try to understand in advance which is the plant that this person prefers; in fact, fans tend to specialize, to love a plant species and to hate others; this does not necessarily happen, but it is likely that the lover of garden plants does not love succulents, the lover of carnivorous plants will tend to love only those, the rose enthusiast will not easily appreciate houseplants.

Moreover, it can happen that the plant we have chosen comes from the enthusiast, seen as a trivial gift, seen that, probably, in the garden or in the greenhouse, it has the most particular and sought after species. So if we are not sure of the plant to give, let’s avoid giving plants to plant lovers, or let’s give them only to those friends who are passionate about plants in general, who tend to buy plants at the supermarket just because they see that in the shelf are drying up.
